2016 Season Opening Sixes Champs

Season Off to Flyer with Successful Sixes

By Paul Malpass, SCC President

The 2016 cricket season in Shanghai is now truly underway after a successful weekend of sixes kicked things off in style.

Twelve teams from across nine clubs battled in near perfect weather at Wellington College which resulted in K2 being crowned champions after defeating the Leopards in the final. This is K2 second successive title following last years D1 championship and as we enter the regular season, they must be considered favourites for the season ahead.

Aside from K2’s success, there were other notable performances, with a young promising Dulwich team reaching the semi finals. This should bode well for their season ahead as they make the step up to Division 2 for the first time. Continue reading “Season Off to Flyer with Successful Sixes”

CricHQ Training

CricHQ Training

With the proper training yet to come from CricHQ, the SCC will hold a training session this Friday, April 1 at Hit Wicket at 8:30 pm for anyone interested in learning how to score with the app and/or manage players and teams through the website. A second training will also be held next Wednesday, April 6 at the same time and place.

The app is quite intuitive and easy to use once a match is underway, but is a little confusing to start with, so I will go through the process of setting up matches, a little bit of scoring, team management and results submission. If you or anyone at your club is interested please let me know. Continue reading “CricHQ Training”

Pirates vs Tongji

SCC Pirates Defeat Tongji University in Season Opening Friendly

The Shanghai Cricket Club Pirates kicked off the 2016 season with a friendly Twenty20 match against Tongji University over the weekend.

The Pirates won the toss and elected to bat. Mark Henwood and Ankit Kawatra opened on a pitch that was an artificial soccer field, providing varied enough bounce to keep things interesting. Henwood batted through to the 14th over for 34 off 33 before being bowled. Pirate debutant Adrian Russell settled in and saw his unbeaten half century move the SCC's score to 180 from their 20 overs.

Bashers and Camel to Screen ‘Death of a Gentleman’

The Bashers Cricket Club and the Camel Sports Bar in Puxi will be screening “Death of Gentleman” on Thursday, February 25 at 8 pm. Admission is free and happy hour prices will be in place all night.

In “Death of a Gentleman,” two journalists embark on a journey across the cricketing empire to find the answer to the question “Who really cares about Test cricket?” They talk to the players, ex-players, broadcasters, journalists, administrators and fans. They venture, often uninvited, into boardrooms, offices, hotel rooms and even the home of cricket itself, Lord’s, looking for answers as to who is responsible, and what are they doing to save their game. K2 Win First Division 1 Crown

K2 won their first Division 1 crown on Sunday, defeating the Daredevils in a lopsided final that saw K2 bowler Keshav take 5 wickets for just 6 runs and K2 bowl out the Devils for just 23 runs. K2 opened the match with the bat, establishing several promising partnerships before collapsing a bit near the end of their innings to reach 194/7. The Daredevils in response, never made it out of first gear, the dream of an undefeated season ending at Wellington with a whimper.
