Bokhara Bell Interport Match Set for December 10-11

SCC President Paul Malpass announced today that the 2016 Bokhara Bell Memorial Interport Match between Shanghai CC and Hong Kong CC will take place on December 10 and 11 at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.

This years marks the 150th anniversary of the first match between Shanghai and Hong Kong in 1866. The two clubs have met a total of 47 times; 38 times from 1866 to 1949, and nine times since 1994. Shanghai last played at the Hong Kong Cricket Club in 2014.

The Hong Kong Cricket Club
HKCC was founded in 1851, making it one of the first cricket clubs outside England. It has over 2,300 members and provides a range of sports and social activities at its facilities in the heart of Hong Kong Island. In addition to Interport and friendly matches, HKCC has three teams in the domestic Saturday League and two teams in the Sunday League.

The Bokhara Bell
The SS Bokhara sank off the coast of Sand Island, Formosa on October 10, 1892 en route to Hong Kong from Shanghai. Of the 125 people who perished on board, 11 were members of an HKCC team returning fromĀ an Interport match against the SCC. When the two clubs reestablished relations in 2003, a trophy bearing the name of the ship was created to honour the memory of the team.
