The Chinese national men’s cricket team will play the Daredevils Cricket Club this Sunday in the second of the Chinese side’s three game warm-up ahead of the ACC U-19 Challenge Cup next month in Malaysia.
“Its an honour for us to face the Chinese national team on Sunday,” said Daredevils captain Jasim Baig. “The team and I are looking forward to it as we have seen them play and they certainly have the potential to challenge any opposition.”
After losing a closely contested match against Pudong Power last weekend, the Chinese side will look to improve their batting attack against the Daredevils this Sunday at Dulwich College.
China is ranked 16th in the Asian Cricket Council’s 2009-2010 rankings. The team will travel to Penang, Malaysia in July to participate in the ACC U-19 Challenge Cup. They will face Bhutan on July 3, Iran on July 4, and Myanmar on July 6.
Following the first round of the 2011 SCC League, the Daredevils find themselves in the middle of the ladder with two wins and two losses.
The weather may be a decisive factor this weekend, with damp conditions expected on Sunday. An early game the previous weekend had to be called off due to excessive water on the pitch and should it continue to rain on Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday, the Dulwich outfield will likely prove to be very slow on Sunday.
With the precipitation suiting swing bowling with the new ball and the ball keeping low once the shine has worn off, both teams will have to put the ball in the air if they hope to clear the boundary and quick running between the wickets will become essential.
Baig said that the Daredevils look forward to helping the Chinese cricket team prepare for their upcoming tournament.
“By organizing the series of these matches, [the] SCC has provided a great opportunity for the teams to learn from each other, raise the level of their game and play the matches in good cricketing spirit,” he said.
Bashers to Face DPR Hot Dogs
Prior to the Daredevils-China friendly at Dulwich, the Division 3 Bashers will play the first rematch against the Hot Dogs since beating them on May 8. That victory would be the first of three wins by the Bashers Cricket Club on the day, as the Division 1 and Division 2 teams defeated their opponents to post a clean sweep in wins for the club on the day.
The Bashers are coming off a victory over the Dulwich Knights on June 5 while the Hot Dogs are still in the hunt for their first win of the season.
