Sunday, July 26 saw the culmination of the SCC’s mid-season T20 tournament with Finals Day at SCSC. With players from all clubs being drawn to represent six teams the tournament didn’t fail in being a fun filled, action packed that brought he whole SCC community together.
After two weeks of rain affected preliminary rounds the scene was set for an exciting Final’s Day with Dayne’s World and Amogh’s Armateurs facing off in the championship game.
Dayne’s World skipper Dayne Wotton won the toss and just to bat first in the searing heat. Despite the loss of an early wicket the batting side made the most of some generous bowling to head into the much needed drinks break at 73-1, the stop in play didn’t slow down the batting side as they continued their onslaught with Wotton (73) James Keel (38) and Extras (62) leading the way to set Amogh’s Armateurs a daunting 199 to win.
The run chase never really got going despite the best of efforts of Krishnan (48) and some late hitting from Kishor (54), the chasing team fell 53 runs short of the target at 145-5 with Alastair Darby leading the way an impressive bowling display and a fine catch.
SCC club captain Dayne Wotton was full of praise for both his winning team and the tournament as a whole. βI think we had a bit of luck to go with some great team performances, everyone played their part, and everyone had fun,β Wotton said. βIt was a fantastic tournament to be a part of, it brought everyone together, not just from across clubs but across all the divisions as well.β
