2016 Tour of Japan

SCC to Tour Japan for Series with Japan Men’s National Team

The Shanghai Cricket Club will travel to Japan on October 29 and 30 to play three Twenty20 matches against the Japan men’s national team.

The games will be a warmup for Japan, who will be competing in the East Asia Cup the following weekend. The matches between Japan and the SCC will be played at the Sano International Stadium, which has recently been developed into Japan’s first official cricket stadium. The East Asia Cup is also being held in Sano, and will feature Japan, Hong Kong, China and Korea.  Continue reading “2016 Tour of Japan”

2016 Twenty20 Schedule Released

The 2016 SCC Twenty20 Tournament will be played for four weekends in July, starting July 10. The finals will be played after the end of the SCC league season on November 6. Teams have been divided into two groups of five teams each. Each team will play three group matches, after which, the top two teams in each group will advance to a knockout semi-final.

SCC Meet with Mike Gatting

The Shanghai Cricket Club was invited by the British Chamber of Commerce and the Yang Foundation to an informal lunch with former England skipper Mike Gatting on Thursday to discuss the continuing development of cricket in China.

Gatting is heavily involved in Chinese youth cricket development via the MCC. The discussion was centered on how the SCC can be of help in all areas of cricket development in Shanghai and greater China. The sides also discussed the possibility of arranging tourists from further afar.

Club Captain Dayne Wotton took the opportunity to present Gatting with one of our new club polos and ties. Many thanks to the Yang Foundation and BritCham for arranging the meeting.

Mike Gatting in Shanghai Thursday

Camel Poster Mike GattingMike Gatting will be in Shanghai on Thursday, June 9 for a meet and greet at the Camel Puxi starting at 7pm.

Mike is visiting about 11 schools in China over the next two weeks to run workshops and tournaments and teach students about cricket. He’s also meeting with about 10 different businesses and organisations to seek their long term support for promoting and developing cricket in China.

The Camel will be charging 100 RMB at the door and there is a 100 RMB meal and drink deal in place as well. The money from the event will go towards equipment used in development workshops and games for the students he meets.

Bokhara Bell Interport Match Set for December 10-11

SCC President Paul Malpass announced today that the 2016 Bokhara Bell Memorial Interport Match between Shanghai CC and Hong Kong CC will take place on December 10 and 11 at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.

This years marks the 150th anniversary of the first match between Shanghai and Hong Kong in 1866. The two clubs have met a total of 47 times; 38 times from 1866 to 1949, and nine times since 1994. SCC Merchandise Now Available

Following great support from the merchandise guru of Shanghai cricket, Mark Henwood, the Shanghai Cricket Club is proud to unveil its first range of official merchandise.

To supplement the SCC blazer, we now have a range of causal polo shirts as well as an SCC tie. These are available for all current and former members for RMB150 each for the polo shirts and RMB50 for the tie.

SCC Dragons Set for China Cup

Shanghai Cricket Club Captain Dayne Wotton today announced the SCC Dragons side that will compete in the 2016 China Cup against Beijing CC.

Kevin Wright will captain the team to play against Beijing in the annual match last won by Shanghai in 2013. The in-form trio of Chris Wade, Steven Kelaher and Manik Kapoor will make their debuts for the Dragons and Alex Todorov will play his first home match alongside a host of returning regulars.
